I turned the cup into a zoetrope.

Spin to bring the animation to life.

Keep it. Loop it. Reuse it.

I love packaging design.

I love how it sneaks into your decision when you’re picking up a product, and how, in return, the product becomes a little stage for the design to show off. It brings art and design into everyday life, making it more approachable to the public instead of leaving it stuck in a gallery.

You can’t imagine how many empty things I’ve hoarded, just because the packaging was too good to throw away.

I entered the open call for students to design the reusable cup.

The message of reuse and sustainability from KeepCup instantly reminded me of the looping nature of animation - the pleasure and satisfaction of witnessing something repeat.

The cup itself can serve as a lovely zoetrope, an ancient device for animation. I selected some frames from the original looping animation and laid them out as the design. The colour palette of pink and green evokes a sense of peacefulness and relaxation. And I hope that’s how anyone holding this cup would feel.
